Facing foreclosure? Struggling to keep up with mortgage payments or know someone who is? We have a new way to help. The Nevada Housing Division (NHD) and Nevada Affordable Housing Assistance Corporation (NAHAC) have teamed up to bring struggling Nevada homeowners hope and relief through a new federal Homeowner Assistance Fund program.
NHD received $120 million from the U.S. Treasury’s Homeowner Assistance Fund, established by the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act, to provide relief to Nevada homeowners who suffered a financial hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic. We have partnered with NAHAC to administer these funds to eligible Nevadans to help prevent delinquencies, foreclosures, defaults and displacements.
The program will empower homeowners experiencing financial distress to protect and keep their homes with the following types of assistance:
- Unemployment mortgage assistance to unemployed homeowners that need help with their monthly mortgage payments.
- Mortgage reinstatement to catch up on delinquent payments or payments currently in forbearance.
“While we are seeing some positive indicators of economic recovery around the state, there are many Nevadans still suffering financially from the impact of the pandemic,” said Steve Aichroth, Administrator, Nevada Housing Division. “We believe the Homeowner Assistance Fund program will provide the most vulnerable homeowners in our state a sense of hope with much needed financial assistance.”
How to qualify
Those who might qualify for the program include homeowners in the following situations:
- Lost job due to the coronavirus pandemic and are behind on mortgage
- Returned to work and are still behind on the mortgage or underemployed
- Collecting unemployment and behind on the mortgage
“We are singularly focused on helping qualified homeowners level-set their finances in order to stay in their homes,” explained Verise Campbell, CEO/COO of NAHAC. “We want our fellow Nevadans to find comfort in knowing that there is hope and programs under the Homeowner Assistance program are free and available to help keep homeowners in their homes and give them the confidence and resources to get back on their feet.”
